This year has been a very difficult one, mainly because of the extra stresses resulting from Covid. Our whole family seemed to be drowning in work and school, and we needed a break to reconnect as a family. We decided to visit Don's brother Tony in Savannah, Georgia.
Don's parents joined us and we stayed in an Air BnB on Henry Street. It was a beautiful old place that was big enough for the whole family. It was also in walking distance of just about anything you want to do in Savannah. We arrived Sunday evening, unpacked, and spent time with Tony, his girlfriend, Trisha, and Don's parents. Trisha took Hannah, Connor, and I on a brief tour of the SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) campus grounds. Hannah fell in love again with the campus. She was in (Alt Girl Heaven)!
On Monday, we went on a trolley ride around the city. We did this the last time we were in Savannah, but this time, our kids were old enough to appreciate the the history of the city. I shared my love for photography with Connor. He took many beautiful pictures on our trolley ride. That night, we ate at Tony's restaurant, Repeal 33. If you are ever in the Savannah area, you should try this restaurant. It is amazing! After the restaurant, we came back and played Texas hold em', where Don's mother won by the skin of her teeth.
On Tuesday, we split up to do what everyone wanted to do. Tony took his parents to Tybee Island for the day. Our family wanted to explore Savannah. Don and the boys explored the town, had lunch, and went out for ice cream. Hannah and I explored the town, went shopping, and ate like queens! Hannah loved the vintage shops and boutiques, and I loved all the famous sites where movies had been shot. Don and Jackson wanted to go back to the Air BnB, so they brought Connor to spend the rest of the afternoon with Hannah and I. We enjoyed site-seeing city and visiting all the beautiful parks.
After our day downtown, we came home to enjoy one last "cards night" with the family. If you ever play with the Smith family, you should know that Jackson is a smart and cunning risk taker, and Connor is extremely lucky, very unpredictable, and a very good bluffer! Don't underestimate them because of their age or sweet, innocent little faces! You will be playing with fire. They are ruthless and dangerous poker players, and they will eat you alive! In fact, Connor won this game against very experienced Smith family poker players.
On Wednesday morning, we left Savannah and came home. It was a nice getaway and it felt good to reconnect with family!
The Air BnB
We stayed in an Airbnb called, "The Stella." It was an old townhome beautifully decorated with an eclectic flare. I really liked it. One of the best things about this place was that the host was very a-tuned to what renters need when staying in a place. I have stayed in a lot of Airbnbs, but this host out did every other host in every other place I have stayed. I usually have to bring paper products, a hair dryer, toiletries, laundry detergent, kitchen products, etc... We did not need them here. She had everything we needed. It was so nice to know that if we had forgotten anything, she had a backup for us there. She also had a welcome sign out with each of our family member's names and a basket full of treats for us. She even checked on us to make sure that we were having a nice stay. It means a lot when someone goes the extra mile to make sure you are happy with your accommodations.
Don's brother, Tony, is the Executive Chef at Repeal 33. I wish I had thought to take more pictures while there. The food was incredible. If you are interested in going, check out their website here: Repeal 33
